New Scholarship, Additional Gifts Enrich Economics Department
College of Liberal Arts and Economics major alumnus Charlie Brown '09, a financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual’s Boston Group and our Economics Department Honors Dinner speaker in 2013, has recently announced a pledge to endow an Economics scholarship in honor of Joanne Spitz. He is the youngest alumnus ever to make such a significant gift, and was featured speaker at the University’s Annual Celebration of Support held on March 25, 2014. Thank you, Charlie!
James Gajewski (BA/MA, Class of 2014)
has set a record for speed in making an alumni contribution! Just weeks after obtaining his degree, he sent in a donation with the note, “This donation is in gratitude for a tremendous effort on the part of the faculty in applied economics to make the first wave of the program a resounding success. The education that myself and the rest of my cohort received has been no less than life altering, and I look forward to contributing regularly for the remainder of my life.”
We very much appreciate the support that alumni have given to the Department. The alumni-funded student computer lab, Honors Dinner, student prizes, visiting speakers, and other activities enrich our program in these tight-budget times. We
also sincerely thank those of you who have provided us information about job possibilities for our graduating majors, or have participated in job networking events.
