Dave McPherson '89: Giving Back by Supporting Faculty

"It may sound clichéd, but I could not have achieved what I have without UMass Boston,” says Dave McPherson ’89.

Studying with College of Management’s stellar faculty helped him confidently imagine his future career. Recently, as McPherson has become reacquainted with UMass Boston, his admiration for the its mission has intensified.

Soon after meeting College of Management Dean Jorge Haddock, he was convinced that by investing philanthropically he could significantly foster student success.

That's why McPherson and his wife, Gail, decided to establish the McPherson Family Faculty Endowment Fund at the college. The endowed fund will honor a faculty member for excellence in teaching and curriculum development and will provide funding to expand his or her efforts.

Dave’s journey to Columbia Point was preceded by studies at UMass Amherst. When a job in Boston required a long commute, transferring to UMass Boston made sense. He says the university cultivated his talents and passion for business.

Majoring in management, McPherson graduated magna cum laude and continued his studies at Boston University Law School. After years of working in corporate law as a partner at Latham & Watkins and Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, Dave joined Catterton, a leading consumer-focused private equity firm in Greenwich, Connecticut, as chief legal officer.

UMass Boston thanks Dave McPherson for giving back to the Just Imagine campaign. If you would like to discuss how you can make a difference in the lives of students and faculty, please contact John Feeley at 617.287.4513.
